Competition needed to end K-Electric monopoly: KCCI
KARACHI: The KCCI’s Research department suggested that competitive environment allowing more private power companies is needed to end the monopoly of K-Electric due to which Karachiites suffer from electricity-related issues.
In a report, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Research department said Pakistan is yet to allow multiple private electricity transmission and distribution companies to operate targeting the same consumers through infrastructure sharing thereby infusing a healthy competition.
It noted that although efforts were initiated, yet it was strongly resisted by K-Electric who termed it ‘not a commercially or practically viable option.’
