The energy sector has been a key challenge for every government in Pakistan. Keeping that challenge in focus, the present Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) administration came to power in mid-2013 with the slogan it would bring the crippling electricity crisis to an end swiftly.

However, the task was not that easy as the government had not only to develop new power plants and ramp up gas supplies, it was also required to address the constraints afflicting the energy chain that were impeding supplies to consumers.
